3 photojournalists injured in clashes

SRINAGAR: A spontaneous shutdown and intermittent stonethrowing took place in Srinagar on Saturday after three militants were killed in Chhatabal. The authorities deployed forces in huge number in the interiors of downtown. There were clashes at Safa Kadal, Chattabal, Qamarwari, Zampi Kadal, and Karan Nagar. Eyewitnesses said that forces lathi-charged civilians at SMHS hospital where a civilian who was crushed under a police vehicle was brought dead. Three photojournalists sustained injuries during clashes that broke out soon after government forces took custody of the body of the killed civilian, Adil Ahmad Yatoo, at SMHS hospital. The injured photojournalists include Farooq Javed Khan of EPA, Javed Dar of Xinhua News Agency and Omar Asif of Kashmir News Service. Mobile internet services of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), were s suspended as a precautionary measure in Srinagar. All educational institutes, including schools and colleges, were closed as a precautionary measure. Class work in Kashmir University (KU) has been suspended to prevent any protests against the killings.
