Srinagar: Three boys are feared to be dead after a boat carrying five boys overturned in River Jhelum near Khanpora bridge in Baramulla town.
Two boys were rescued, while search for the other three is going on.
Local sources said that five boys from Dewanbagh area of town were enjoying a boat ride in the river when the boat struck an old dredger (Himalayan dipper dredge) near Khanpora bridge.
As a result, the boat overturned and the five boys fell in the river. Soon after the incident locals rushed to the spot and retrieved two of the boys.
However, they failed to trace the other three.
Later teams of police and army reached the spot and started a joint rescue operation. However, the boys were yet to be traced when this report was filed.
The missing boys have been identified as Anzar Ahmad Wani son of Farooq Ahmad Wani of Dewanbagh, Tufail Ahmad Shah son of Mushtaq Ahmad Shah of Dewanbagh, and Shahid Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Syed Shah of Dewanbagh Baramulla.
Police officials said a rescue operation has been launched.
