Demands probe into Baramulla killings

SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association (JKHCBA) Srinagar has condemned the remarks made by Kavinder Gupta, who claims to have been an active member of RSS from 13 years of age that Kathua kidnapping, rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl, who was held captive for a week in a temple and was administered drugs by those who repeatedly raped and later killed her, was a “small matter” which should not have been given such a big hype.
“At a time when the civilised people of the world have condemned the gruesome act and have demanded death penalty for those who have committed the said dastardly act of kidnapping, rape and murder of a minor girl, the remarks made by Kavinder Gupta are shameful and deserve condemnation by one and all,” it said.
The Bar Association maintained that every woman is entitled to due respect and regard and the men are responsible to protect her from the onslaught of attacking her modesty or commit an act of rape on her or kill her to escape from the consequence of their beastly act and anyone who is found guilty should be given death penalty so that the others learn a lesson from the same.
“Kavinder Gupta, who has been a Speaker of the Legislative Assembly for the last more than 3 years and is now the Deputy Chief Minister in the coalition government and must be definitely a father of a daughter, should have shown respect and regard for the eight year old nomadic girl as well, but he having described the incident as a small one, has only lowered down his image not only amongst the members of his family but also in the entire civilised society of the world,” Bar said.
Meanwhile, Bar strongly condemned the killing of three persons including a youth who had been released from detention a fortnight back at Khanpora Baramulla, by unidentified gunmen.
In a statement, Bar demanded an independent and impartial judicial enquiry into the matter so that the people will come to know about the true facts of the case.
The holding of such a judicial enquiry is also imperative as in past, in the name of unidentified gunmen, innocent people have either been killed or have become permanently disabled for their entire life and the true facts have never known by the people.
