BANDIPORA: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora on Tuesday organised 12th Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting here.
District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora Khurshid Ahmad Sanai, Director Extension SKUAST-K Prof Mushtaq Ahmad, Programme Coordinator KVK Dr M H Samoon, besides officers and experts from horticulture, fisheries, sheep, agriculture, forest and other departments, KVK scientists and progressive farmers participated in the meeting.
The DDC on the occasion impressed upon the KVK scientists and other officers to make the farmers aware of crop cultivation according to the season. For this purpose, he stressed for organising training, awareness programmes in the district, a handout issued here read.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Extension SKUAST-K Prof Mushtaq Ahmad exhorted upon the scientists to “work with more dedication for the welfare of farmers”. He emphasised the need for cooperation and coordination between KVK and development departments to get success in doubling farmers’ income by 2022.
He said, “Scientists should give attention towards both farming and non-farming activities,” adding that the farmers should be motivated to establish self-help groups to increase their income, the handout further read.
The director requested the DDC for involving KVK experts in the meetings and programmes being conducted under ATMA. He enjoined upon the experts, that the farmers should be sensitised about new varieties to get better results.
Farmers during the meeting also shared their experiences and interacted with experts regarding farming skills.
Two publications of KVK for the know-how of farmers, ‘Precautions Before and After Pesticide Spray’ and one folder on ‘Buckwheat’ were also released during the meeting.
Soil Health Cards were distributed among the farmers, the handout added.
