Jammu: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) inducted five new faces in the Jammu and Kashmir cabinet on Monday.
Assembly speaker and BJP leader Kavinder Gupta has been sworn-in as Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir.
Satpal Sharma, Rajiv Jasrotia, Devinder Kumar Maniyal and Shakti Raj were sworn-in as ministers for the state.
Kavinder Gupta is a former mayor of Jammu. He had won the 2014 Assembly election from Gandhinagar constituency in Jammu. Satpal Sharma is the president of Jammu and Kashmir state unit of the BJP, Devinder Kumar Maniyal is an SC elect from the Samba constituency in Jammu and Shakti Raj is an MLA from the Dodha district in Jammu.
Nirmal Singh will be named the new Speaker of the state Legislative Assembly, sources said.
The oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers was administered by Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra. The swearing-in ceremony took place at the convention centre Jammu instead of Raj Bhavan as the government has already shut down its offices in Jammu and shifted its base to summer capital Srinagar.
