Srinagar: Teachers working under centrally sponsored scheme Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) protested on Saturday in Srinagar against the delay in the release of their salaries.
SSA teachers went on one-day hunger strike here in Partap Park demanding the government to immediately release their salary on monthly basis.
The protesters raised the slogans in favour of their demands and said that government has not released their salaries from past three months causing immense hardships to the teaching community.
Shah Fayaz, spokesman of SSA teachers Association said, “Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is a scheme sponsored by the government of India. We are nearly 45,000 teachers in Jammu and Kashmir who are working under this scheme. We demand the state government to release our salaries of past three months and arrears. If government is talking about improving standards of education in the state, why are they doing injustice with us?”
The protesters appealed to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to intervene into the matter and release their pending salary and arrears of three months.
