Shopian: A shutdown was observed in Shopian for second consecutive day on Saturday to mourn the killing of a local youth.
Shafaaq Ahmad Shah was killed when militant attacked an army party in Lazibal area of Anantnag. Shafaaq received a bullet in the chest, while boarding a passenger cab.
All business establishments, shops and schools remained closed in the town while traffic on the roads was thin.
Clashes erupted in Kanipora, Alyalpora and Old Bus Stand areas of the town after youth pelted stones on forces.
A cordon and search operation was launched in Wathoo village of Shopian, on “inputs about the presence of militants”. The cordon was later called off without any “contact with militants”.
