SRINAGAR: In continuation with the celebration of ongoing Gram Swaraj Abhiyan, district administration organised a camp to distribute free electricity connections under Saubhagya Scheme among the beneficiaries of Tehsil Udhampur and Chenani, in Udhampur on Saturday.
Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur, Pawan Kumar Gupta and MLA Chenani Dina Nath Bhagat were the chief guests on the occasion.
Calling electricity as the basic need of today, the legislators called upon the people to come forward to avail benefits of various schemes being launched by different departments for their economic upliftment.
100 free electricity connection certificates were distributed among the peple of both the tehsils.
It was informed during the programme that 19 villages of the district have already been identified as leftover households for providing free electricity connections under “Saubhagya” scheme.
An LED lamps distribution booth at subsidized rates was also established outside the DC office complex on the occasion.
Meanwhile, District Development Commissioner Samba S Rajinder Singh Tara distributed free electric meter and free electricity connections along with LED bulbs to the beneficiaries under Saubhagya scheme in a programme organised by PDD at Samba on Saturday.
While speaking on the occasion, the DDC asked the people to get maximum benefits from these schemes which are a part of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan. He also asked the department to work proactively in the border areas to ensure absolute percolation of schemes earmarked for GSA among the intended beneficiaries.
