Kupwara: The army’s search operation for a group of militants who infiltrated from the Pakistani side into Indian Kashmir continued for the second day on Saturday in the forests along the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of Kupwara. The search operation was launched by Indian Army on Friday morning in the Jammugund forest range after an exchange of gunfire on Thursday night when the group of infiltrators was spotted.
Army sources said that the army had killed three heavily-armed infiltrators, but were yet to find their bodies.
The sources added that reinforcements along with sniffer dogs and para-commandos were put into service to nab the militants in this mountainous and forested region, but as yet the search had yielded no result.
A senior police officer in the district said that police are in touch with army but as of now they have no information about any killing of militants.
The area falls along the LoC between the divided parts of Kashmir, far from any civilian area and journalists restricted from its access. The army and police are the only sources of information, which is why this newspaper cannot verify the facts independently.
