SRINAGAR: In continuation with ongoing 29th Road Safety Week, Motor Vehicles department organised an awareness drive in Udhampur on Saturday. Volunteers from Civil Defence, NCC, Scouts and Guides were part of the drive.
During the drive, the District Development Commissioner, Ravinder Kumar presented two wheeler and four wheeler drivers wearing helmet, seat belts and obeying traffic rules with flowers and chocolates in order to motivate the commuters to adhere to the traffic rules.
While appreciating the initiative of the department, DDC said that such programmes would go a long way in generating awareness among the people and would be helpful in minimising the road accidents and encourage safe driving. He further said that people should follow traffic rules while driving which will help avoid many accidents and save loss of precious lives.
Earlier, a rally comprising of NCC and Scouts & Guides of KV NO-01 commenced from Slathia Chowk and passed through the court road, Ramnagar Chowk, hospital road, Sailan Talab, Chabutra Bazaar, Gole market main bazaar bus stand, and finally culminated at DC Office.
Among others, Chief Planning Officer Ashok Khajuria, Assistant Road Transport Officer Kuldeep Singh, Dy Controller Civil Defence Samsher Singh, Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence Swatanter Dev Kotwal, Inspector MVD Ranjan Singh, Inspector CS Baloria, and volunteers and staff members of MVD participated in the programme.
