Gunfight breaks out near LoC in north Kashmir

Srinagar: A gunfight broke out between army and militants near Line of Control (LoC) in Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late last night.
Official sources told news agency GNS that army’s 16 Madras manning the Gharat Post at Kaninthawali, Jumgund along the LoC in Keran opened fire after detecting some suspicious movement at around 7:55 pm in the area.
“A group of three to four militants believed to be the infiltrators returned the fire ensuing a brief exchange of gunfire,” they said.
A senior army officer based in north Kashmir said that the “infiltrators” were challenged by the soldiers after they tried to sneak in.
“A heavy exchange of gunfire took place for some time,” the officer said.
