Shopian: Continuing its initiative to create awareness about the road safety, Motor Vehicles Department on Wednesday organised a Road Safety awareness programme at New Green Land educational institute Shopian.
A statement said that this was the third programme during the week-long programme of 29th road safety week organised by ARTO Shopian to sensitize the youth about the road safety awareness.
Assistant Regional Transport Officer Shopian Abdul Majid was the chief guest on the occasion.
“During the function, real-life video clips about different road accident scenarios in Indian cities, presentations and symposium were showcased,”a statement said.
A large number of students participated in the seminar.
Ashaq Hussain who is the principal of the school appreciated the drive launched by MVD Shopian and expressed his concern about the frequency of fatal accidents in the state.
ARTO Shopian appealed the students to follow road safety rules while crossing the road.
He also presented statistical data about the road accidents in the country, state as well as in district Shopian and stressed upon the students to become torchbearers of the road safety drive.

Meanwhile, as a part of 29th Road Safety Week, Assistant Regional Transport Office Bandipora organised an awareness programme at General Bus Stand Nusoo, Bandipora in which a good number of drivers and general public participated.
On the occasion, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Mohammed Mukhtar Sofi and other speakers threw light on the key issues of safe driving. Safety stickers, pamphlets and other print material relating to better roads and the safe journey was also distributed.
Later a rally of maxi cabs was flagged-off by SDPO and ARTO Bandipora, which went through the main market Bandipora and culminated at SK Sports Stadium Bandipora, spreading the message “Sadak Suraksha- Jeevan Raksha”.
The department had organized a similar kind of function at Taxi Stand Sumbal.
