Tangmarg: Huddled in just one classroom, all the 58 students of Government Primary School Gogaldara are taking their lessons from the only teacher available at the school.
The school, according to local residents, has only one teacher available, while the other is on leave. The teacher has to singlehandedly run the affairs of the school.
Local residents describe the situation as a brazen insensitivity and indifference of Education department towards the poor students.
The school falling under Tangmarg education zone belies all the claims of the state government of providing quality education.
“How would our children be able to get quality education when there is only one teacher to handle five classes all alone? This is injustice and indifference of the Education department towards the poor students,” a local resident, whose child studies at the school said.
The parents of the most of the enrolled student are poor artisans, who have no other options at hand.
Besides lack of teaching staff, the school lacks drinking water facility as well as a playground.
“On one hand the government is talking about streamlining education system and on the other, it is making poor students suffer for want of space, quality education, dearth of teaching staff and basic facilities,” another resident said.
“We are not able to do class work properly as there is only one teacher in the school. Besides shortage of teaching staff, we don’t even have basic facilities here,” a student at the school said. The school was established a decade ago under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme.
Chief Education Officer Baramulla, Abdul Ahad Ganie said that he has talked to ZEO about the status of schools and advised him to depute few more teachers to the school.
“I assure you that few more teachers will be deputed to this school soon,” he said.
