BUDGAM: A policeman posted at Pakherpora in Budgam district decamped with his service rifle on Tuesday evening, police said.
Constable Tariq Ahmad Bhat (Belt no. 1151), son of Mohammad Abdullah Bhat, resident of Khasipora in Shopian district, went missing from the police post at Pakherpora soon after he assumed the night duty shift at the sentry post at 9pm on Tuesday.
“The cop has fled with his service rifle and is missing since yesterday night,” police sources told Kashmir Reader on Wednesday.
“After his friends found him missing, they complained to higher-ups and it was found that he had decamped with his service rifle,” the police sources said.
Senior Superintendent of Police Budgam Tijinder Singh confirmed the news and said that Constable Bhat is missing from his post along with his rifle.
“We are ascertaining the facts and a manhunt has been launched to nab him,” Singh said.
On May 20 last year, a policeman posted at the Food Corporation of India’s godown in Budgam had also decamped with four assault rifles. The cop, Constable Syed Naved, was also from Shopian and was posted at the FCI godown in Nasrullahpora village in Budgam district.
