SHOPIAN: To mark International Earth Day, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shopian in collaboration with Mohammadiya Institution organised an event on the theme ‘End Plastic Pollution and Save Soil’.
Students of different higher secondary schools of the district participated in the event.
According to an official handout, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), Soil Science, Dr Mumtaz A Ganie highlighted the importance of five ‘Rs’ in saving our planet viz., ‘Reducing use of plastics, Reuse of waste materials, Recycling of wastes, Restoring soil fertility and Replenish soil health’.
On the occasion, Programme Coordinator and Head KVK, Dr Parmeet Singh highlighted the significance of celebrating International Earth Day and importance of soil for the very existence of life. He appealed the participants for using the services of KVK, Shopian, especially in perspective of precision agriculture technological interventions, the handout read.
Principal Mohammadiya Institution Shopian, Showket Ali Bhat shared some words of wisdom and pledged for minimum possible use of plastics.
11 participants from different higher secondary institutions delivered speech on ‘End Plastic Pollution and Save Soil’.
Three speakers namely, Fiza Sheeraz, Mubashir Hadi and Tabinda Latief got first, second and third position, respectively, in the programme.
Certificates were also given away to the participants and prizes distributed among the winners.
