SRINAGAR: “Indian rulers through local stooges are extending worst form of repression on Muslims in Jammu Kashmir. This has created an environment more fearful than the terror of Ikhwanis,” Muslim Deeni Mahaz (MDM) said on Tuesday.
“In this repression, renowned pro-freedom leaders Dr Muhammad Qasim (chairperson MDM) and his wife Aasiya Andrabi are being particularly targeted,” MDM spokesperson in a statement issued here said.
He said that 25 years of continuous incarceration of Dr Qasim despite the recommendations of the review board and the detention of Aasiya Andrabi in 1993, 1994, 2005 and 2006 and then in 2008, 2010 and 2016 are evidences to this effect.
“Now in 2018, she (Andrabi) has again been arrested along with her personal secretary Sofi Fehmeeda, Nahida Nasreen and other colleagues. Despite her being very ill, she is being held in Srinagar central jail without proper healthcare facilities and clean drinking water. This has taken a heavy toll on her already fragile health,” he said, adding that the charges on which she has been arrested are “frivolous”.
The silence adopted on her arrest by the international human rights organisations is condemnable, the spokesperson said.
