SRINAGAR: Valley Citizens Council (VCC) on Mondayorganised a signature campaign at Pratap Park here demanding justice for the Kuthua rape and murder victim. The council demanded shifting of case from Kathua court to High Court Srinagar.
“The case should not be shifted outside the state as we know the fate of the infamous sex scandal (of Kashmir) which was also shifted to Chandigarh to shield the criminals. We will not let that happen in this case,” VCC general secretary Imad Saqi told media persons.
The signature campaign gathered hundreds of signatures from people mostly students.
The J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar, Kashmir Tehreek-e-Khawateen (KTK) and trade bodies also participated in the campaign.
“The pro-India parties have politicised the (Kathua rape and murder) issue. They should refrain from drawing political mileage from the tragedy,” said KTK chairperson Zamruda Habib.
“The Hindutva forces backed by BJP and RSS are blaming Hurriyat leadership for inciting protests but this is not about politics, it is a humanitarian issue,” she added.
Zamrooda stressed that such campaigns should continue till the perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to justice.
