SRINAGAR: A host of awareness functions including rallies, seminars, debates and quiz competitions were held across the Kashmir Division on Monday to mark the 29th Road Safety Week aimed to highlight the need for safe driving practices.
The theme for the road safety week this year is ‘Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha’.
The Regional Transport Office Kashmir organized an awareness rally which was flagged-off by RTO, Kashmir Khurshid Ahmad Shah.
Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Riyaz Ahmad Wani and SSP Traffic Tahir Gilani were also present on the occasion.
On the occasion RTO Kashmir said SMC, SDA, Traffic Department and Civil administration will be working in sync with Motor Vehicles Department, to make the Road Safety Week a success in terms of awareness regarding traffic rules among masses to minimize road accidents and violations.
The SSP Traffic said that the department will employ awareness and stringent measures to deal with traffic violations.
Baramulla: District commissioner Dr. Nassir Ahmad Naqash flagged off a road show organized by Motor Vehicles Department which marked the overwhelming response of transporters and other sections of the society.
ADC Farooq Ahmad Baba, ARTO Baramulla Noor-ud-din Andrabi, Chief Education Officer, Chief Medical Officer, representatives of traders’ union and civil society members were present on the occasion.
The DC emphasized upon the need for adopting necessary road safety measures for averting avoidable road accidents and loss of precious human life. He also appealed people particularly driver fraternity to avoid rash and aggressive driving and follow the traffic rules strictly.
Budgam: The week commenced with road safety awareness rally organized by Assistant Regional Transport office flagged-off by CPO Budgam, Abdul Rasheed in presence of ARTO Budgam, DySP Traffic Rural and DySP Headquarters.
Among others, transport operators, drivers and students from different schools participated in the rally which started from DC office to new bus stand Budgam. The participants were carrying banners and placards highlighting safety measures for the awareness of the general public.
Earlier, while chairing a meeting attended by the officials from ARTO office, Traffic and Police departments, civil society members, transporters, school children, CPO Budgam said that it was the responsibility of every individual to contribute for the smooth regulation of transport on the roads.
Pulwama: Additional Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ahmad Rather kick-started the safety week by flagging-off a rally to spread awareness among the people regarding traffic rules.
The rally was organized by the Assistant Regional Transport Officer under the aegis of Motor Vehicle Department in which a number of bike riders and Sumo vehicle drivers participated.
Bandipora: Member Legislative Assembly Bandipora, Usmaan Majid inaugurated a programme organized by Motor Vehicles Department during which he flagged-off a rally from Mini Secretariat here comprising 200 students.
The rally went through various markets of Bandipora town to create awareness among masses about the road safety measures.
District Development Commissioner Khursheed Ahmad Sanai, SSP Bandipora Sheik Zulfiqar Azad, officials of MVD and other concerned were present.
On the occasion, the MLA asked students to learn basic principles and rules of driving. While stressing for organizing more such awareness programmes, he appealed the drivers to strictly adhere to the rules to avert road accidents.
Kulgam: Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Sajad Hussain inaugurated the road safety week organized by Motor Vehicles Department.
The DC also flagged- off a bike rally from Mini Secretariat here comprising around 200 bikers from different parts of the district. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Assistant Regional Transport Officer, DySP Headquarters, other officials of different departments and representatives of transport unions and police functionaries were also present.
The Motor Vehicles Department is going to organize a number of functions including free Eye checking camp, drawing competitions at various schools, drivers training regarding road safety and safety of passengers in the whole district.
Anantnag: the 29th Road Safety Week was organized by the Motor Vehicle Department Anantnag in collaboration with Traffic Police with the flagging-off a bike rally by ARTO Anantnag.
While giving the details of the week-long activities, the ARTO said that free eye checkup and training programmes for commercial drivers, painting competitions in various schools regarding road safety, training of commercial drivers regarding life-saving and first aid techniques by experts, distribution of pamphlets and other awareness programmes will be held.
Among others, DySP Traffic Anantnag, Inspectors of the Motor Vehicle Department Anantnag and other concerned were present on the occasion.
Kargil: Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan launched the 29th Road Safety Week celebrations by flagging-off an awareness rally at Tourist Facilitation Center (TFC) here.
