SRINAGAR: Senior resistance leader and chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that a member of ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) “deceitfully” called on him at his Nigeen residence, on Monday.
He said the PDP member who identified himself as Nazir Yatoo had sought appointment with him to discuss reopening of the 2009 double rape and murder case of Aasiya-Neelofar of Shopian, and also about his brother’s enforced disappearance.
“The person, identifying himself as Nazir Yatoo, called me some days ago, saying his brother was martyred, and had played an important role in the case of Aasiya and Neelofar,” Mirwaiz told Kashmir Reader. “He (Yatoo) wanted to meet and discuss the modalities of reopening of the case.”
“I agreed. After a brief meeting, he left, and called press to give a briefing. My associates saw this theatre and informed me. I sat with him again and he identified himself as PDP leader,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “The person answered in stony silence when I asked him why he did it. His only word was that he met me because I am Mirwaiz.”
Meanwhile, a spokesperson of the conglomerate in a statement condemned the “deceitful” manner in which “a certain Nazir Yatoo who later turned out to be associated with PDP”, came to meet Mirwaiz Umar Farooq at his residence on Monday.
He said Mirwaiz reprimanded him (Yatoo) for lying to him and politely asked him to leave.
