SHOPIAN: At about 10am at main chowk Pinjora in Shopian district, army soldiers fired some shots in the air after their vehicle was stoned by some youths in the village, eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader on Monday.
A police official said that army soldiers fired some shots to disperse the “miscreants” who carried out “intense stone-pelting” on an official vehicle of the army.
Later in the afternoon, vehicles of the Additional Superintendent of Police were stoned at Kundalan village.
Local sources said that as soon as the vehicles were stoned in the village, the police restored to heavy tear smoke shelling and pellet firing to disperse the stone throwers. Local residents added that some shots by policemen were also fired in the air.
The Additional Superintendent of Police Shopian refuted the reports of aerial firing by policemen. “Our vehicles were stoned in the village but the reports of aerial firing are baseless,” he said.
