Baramulla: Notwithstanding the tall claims of the government that education is one of its focus areas; a Government Primary School (GPS) in Tilgam village of Pattan has only one teacher for sixty students of six classes.
Students said that they are not taught all the subjects because it is difficult for a single female teacher to teach all classes.
“Students of KG to class third are reading jointly in one class room and students of class 4th and class 5th are reading in another class,” students said.
The school building has three rooms- two classrooms and one for office.
The teacher also confirmed that it is humanly impossible for her to teach all the subjects.
Locals of the area are aghast against school education department and said that they approached officials many times for posting more faculty and constructing additional infrastructure in the school.
Threatening to shut the schools, locals said: “it is better to shut the school than to ruin the career of kids in the name of education with our poor kids. We would shift the kids to some other school.”
Chief Education Officer (CEO) Baramulla Abdul Ahad Ganie said that he will talk to the concern Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) and he will deploy one more teacher for the school. “Actually we are going to merge this school with nearby high school, however”. CEO said.
