SRINAGAR: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) said it was perturbed on hearing upon the sudden arrest of Dr Aijaz Rasool of Khrewan Malpora, Kulgam by police on late Saturday evening.
In a statement, DAK president Dr Suhail Naik said, “It was a disturbing news for us last night when we heard about the arrest of Dr Ajaz Rasool by police. Though DAK has not been able to establish any contact with the said doctor, however according to sources and as media reports, he was attending his uncle at District Hospital Anantnag, who was not keeping well and was admitted in the hospital.”
“He left the hospital at late evening hours and while on his way home he was stopped by some unknown persons who asked him for a lift. He, on humanitarian grounds allowed them to board his vehicle. The said persons escaped from the vehicle and left their luggage in the car when the car was intercepted by the police party.”
“While searching the vehicle, as per media reports, some objectionable material was found in the car and after that the said doctor was apprehended by police and is in police custody till now,” he said.
Dr Naik added that the said doctor has no direct role in the incident and has been arrested for none of his fault. He said the detailed press report will follow after the facts become clear and once DAK is able to make contact with the detained doctor to know his side of story.
