SRINAGAR: Chairman Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Geelani on Sundaysaid the universal message of Allama Iqbal (RA) teaches people the lessons of compassion, social sensitivity and concern for all human beings and wants them to think, act and create a classless society based on principles of Islam and universal justice.
Addressing a day-long seminar at his Hyderpora residence to pay tributes to the ‘Poet of the East’ Allama Iqbal (RA) on his 80th death anniversary, Geelani said, “Dr Muhammad Iqbal’s writings were devoted to revival of Islam as he endeavoured to propagate pan-Islamism. He was a true devotee with sincere thinking for Muslim Ummah.”
The seminar was also addressed by JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Syed Abdul Rehman Shams, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Dr Javaid Iqbal and Z G Mohammad, a Hurriyat spokesperson said in a statement issued here. The speakers spoke about various dimensions of Allama Iqbal’s philosophy and its bearing on contemporary issues.
The spokesperson said that a large contingent of police deployed on Airport road prevented participants, journalists and Hurriyat activists from entering the venue.
Paying tributes to Allama Iqbal (RA), Geelani said the ‘Poet of the East’ in his poems has rejected the slavery.
“The slave nations never secure the benefits of faith (Imaan) and he (Iqbla) in his poetry has more comprehensively described the evil effects of slavery, and always supported resilience and resistance against occupation and subjugation,” he said. “Slavery is a curse and leaves deep scare on nations.”
Appealing youth to follow Qur’an, teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and philosophy of Allama Iqbal (RA); the Hurriyat chairman impressed them to shun sectarian thinking and hold firmly the rope of Allah.
JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik in his address said Allama Iqbal (RA) was a true devotee who focused on love, compassion and resistance against evil forces.
“Allama Iqbal (RA) tried to free Muslim mind from forced occupation,” Malik said and appealed people to boycott all upcoming elections and maintain distance from pro-India politicians.
Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said Allama Iqbal (RA) was God’s gift for the Muslim Ummah.
Dr Javaid Iqbal and Z G Muhammad delineated objectives of teachings and philosophy of Dr Iqbal (RA) and called for proper understanding of the ‘Poet of the East’ in the whole range of his work. “Iqbal (RA) placed great emphasis on research and Ijtihad,” they said.
