Women’s participation vital in establishing peace: Safina Beig

SRINAGAR: Observing that women are equal stakeholders in the nation building and peace process, the newly appointed women wing president of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Safina Beig on Saturday called upon womenfolk to work diligently for restoring lasting peace in J&K. She said peace is imperative for socio-economic growth of every section of the society.
Addressing maiden meeting of party’s women wing here, which, according to a statement issued here, was attended by legislators, district president, office bearers and workers, Beig expressed her gratitude towards party leadership in general and chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in particular for giving her the responsibility as women wing president.
“I assure my leadership that I will work with dedication and commitment, with my full potential, to come up to the expectations of the party,” she said. “It is vision of our chief minister that women are equal stakeholders in peace and nation building initiatives.”
“Women are the worst victims of conflict and turmoil so their participation and role is more important in the process to establish sustainable peace,” Safina said and exuded confidence that under the “dynamic” leadership of Mehbooba Mufti, the lasting peace would be established in this region.
“We have to carry forward chief minister’s agenda of peace and development across the state,” she exhorted party workers, adding, “Being workers of PDP, it is our responsibility to frustrate the designs of those forces which are hell bent to create disturbance in the state by raking up emotions of the people.” She cautioned that forces inimical to peace are frustrated due to “revolutionary and pro-people steps” being initiated by the coalition government headed by Mehbooba Mufti.
Calling upon party workers to spread the message of PDP at grassroots level, Safina Beig said that party’s agenda was formulated by accommodating wishes and aspirations of all sections of the society and need of the hour is to educate the people about revolutionary policies of the party. She said PDP’s policies are focused on women in particular as the party has formulated a comprehensive programme for the socio-economic growth of the women of the state.
Safina announced that constituency wise conventions would be held very soon in all parts of the state in which genuine concerns of the womenfolk would be addressed. “The genuine grievances of women would be brought to the notice of chief minister,” she said.
