SRINAGAR: Chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference and patron of Mutahida Majlise-Ulema Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Saturday paid glowing tributes to two prominent personalities of Islamic history – Hazrat Imam-e-Azam Abu Haneefa (RA) and ‘Hakeemul Umat’ Allama Iqbal (RA) – on their anniversaries, saying the contribution of these “great and pious souls” can never be forgotten.
In a statement, Mirwaiz termed the contribution of Imam Abu Haneefa (RA) towards Fiqh and Islamic jurisprudence as a shining light for the generations to come. He said Imam Azam (RA) for his entire made efforts to make Islam understandable for common masses.
“Imam Abu Haneefa (RA) was the first of the Imams to advocate the use of ‘reason’ in the consideration of religious questions based on the Qur’an and Sunnah,” he said.
Paying tributes to the “great philosopher, thinker and Poet of the East’ Muhammad Allama Iqbal (RA) on his 80th death anniversary, Mirwaiz said, “Allama has not only a distinguished status among the poets and philosophers of his time but his poetry is of cosmic nature stressing on the concept of self belief (Khud Aetmadi) as well as belief in the divine (Khuda Aetmadi). His poetry has played a guiding role for the whole Ummah.”
Mirwaiz said Allama Iqbal (RA) was sympathiser of people of the subcontinent as is reflected in his poetry which also reflects his deep love and devotion to the beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
