ANANTNAG: In different raids late on Friday evening, police in Anantnag arrested at least eight persons, including Dukhtaran-e-Millat Chairperson Asiya Andrabi, four of her female associates, and the tehsil president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Ashiq Narchoor.
Andrabi and her associates have been sent to Central jail in Srinagar. Narchoor has been detained at Sherbagh police post in main town Anantnag. The two other arrested persons, both local shopkeepers, were shifted late on Saturday evening to the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) from the Sadder police station.
According to police reports, Andrabi and her associates were arrested in Aaang area of Anchidora, on the outskirts of main town Anantnag.
“She was taken to police station Sadder late Friday evening,” police sources told Kashmir Reader.
The other three persons, including Narchoor, were detained from their homes. SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan told Kashmir Reader that Andrabi and her associates were arrested for their role in orchestrating the student protests in Anantnag.
“We have sent them to Central Jail,” he said.
The role of the other detained persons in organising the student protests, Khan said, was being ascertained.
