Ganderbal: High altitude areas in Ganderbal district including the tourist resort of Sonamarg experienced fresh snowfall leading to the closure of 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway on Friday.
Traffic on the strategic highway linking the frontier Ladakh region with the rest of the state was suspended from both sides since early morning Friday after continuous snowfall in the area, a traffic official said.
He said about six to 10 inches of snow had accumulated on the highway at Zojilla Pass.
Upper reaches of Ganderbal district including Gund, Kullan, Rezan, Gaganiger and Zojila also received fresh snowfall.
Sonamarg received around seven inches of snowfall.
A tourist Efa Isman from Indonesia told Kashmir Reader that she was excited to see snowfall for the first time
“This is so beautiful and people should come and see. It is really heaven, there is snow everywhere,” she said.
Niraj Kumar Singh, Captain BRO said that the snowfall was still going on at Zojila and that the road would be opened for traffic after weather improves.
