SRINAGAR: Goni Khan Traders Association on Thursday held a protest here in Srinagar demanding justice for the Kathua girl who was raped and murdered inside a place of worship in Kathua district of Jammu region.
The protesters raised slogans against the culprits involved in the rape and murder of the eight-year old girl.
Vice President Riyaz Ahmad Rather, Goni Khan Traders Association, a body of more than 400 shops, told Kashmir Reader that the protest was held at11:30 am till 12:30 pm. Between this time, Riyaz said, they peacefully marched through the market holding placard reading slogans demanding justice of the victim.
The protesting traders said that some people from Jammu region want CBI enquiry for their own benefits. However, “there is no need of CBI intervention”.
The protesters said the protest will be not end till Justice was not delivered in the rape and murder of the Kathua girl.
“We are not protesting because she was belonged to Muslim community. We are fighting for the humanity and safety for all girls”, said one of the protesting association members.
The rape and murder of eight-year-old girl, who was abducted, drugged, raped and murdered inside a place of worship has created a controversy in the state.
The protests in solidarity with the victim are being closely followed the world over by holding rallies and conferences. Besides routine reportage, several newspapers have carried editorials and used the case to draw attention to violence against women all over the world.
Meanwhile, protesting students blocked the highway near Noora Hospital at Zainakote area of Srinagar. The school children too were protesting against the rape and murder of the Kathua girl.
