SRINAGAR: The resistance camp on Wednesday paid tributes to prominent pro-freedom personality S Hameed on his 20th martyrdom anniversary.
In a statement, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq led Hurriyat Conference said S Hameed was “a man of conviction and principles who courageously stood against the forcible control on Kashmir”.
“Hameed’s contribution towards Kashmir’s freedom struggle will always be remembered and appreciated,” a spokesperson of the amalgam said.
A delegation of the conglomerate visited the Martyrs’ Graveyard Eidgah here and offered special Fateha prayers in favour of S Hameed, he added.
JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik while paying tributes to S Hameed termed him as “a selfless person, a courageous warrior and a dedicated leader”
“He (S Hameed) was martyred by SOG in custody and his killing reminds us of the ugly Indian repression,” Malik said.
Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) in its tributes to S Hamid said he was an associate of party’s incarcerated chief Shabir Ahmad Shah.
S Hameed was arrested by government forces and killed in custody in Soura area of Srinagar on April 18, 1998, a JKDFP spokesperson said in a statement.
Remembering the “great politician and intellectual”, the spokesperson said that S Hamid was an icon of the freedom struggle and among the founders of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC).
“Time has proved that by the sacrifices of our great martyrs like S Hamid, the freedom movement has become so strong. Despite the dirty designs of the occupying forces, the ideological heirs of the martyrs are still on the path of resistance and freedom,” he said.
Terming S Hamid as a leader with vision, the spokesperson said he will always be remembered for his dedication, sincerity and love for freedom.
