Police arrest drug peddlers in Jammu, Pattan

Baramulla: Police on Tuesday said that they arrested a drug peddler along with 50 codeine phosphate bottles in Pattan area of Baramulla.
A police statement said that the peddler was arrested during a naka near Zangam on Srinagar- Baramulla road.
“During frisking of vehicles, a bike bearing registration number JK05A 5143 ridden by one Manzoor Ahmad Khawja son of Ghulam Rasool Khawja of Nowlari Pattan was stopped by Naka party and during the search 50 bottles of codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession,” a police statement said.
It added that a case FIR number 81/18 under section 8/22 NDPS Act was registered in police station Pattan and investigation was started.
Meanwhile, an alleged drug peddler has been arrested after 1.5 kg of charas (cannabis resin) was recovered from his vehicle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway, the police said.
A police team stopped the vehicle coming from Srinagar at Nagrota yesterday and seized the contraband from its driver, a police spokesperson said.
A case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections of law, and police is investigating the matter for further details, the spokesperson said.
