SRINAGAR: No BJP minister has been told to resign by the party head command to quit from the state government, Speaker of Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta told Kashmir Reader on Tuesday evening, but another BJP leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that all the party’s ministers have been asked to put in papers for a reshuffle of portfolios, which was due for a long time.
“A meeting was held in Trikuta Nagar which was headed by Avinash Rai Khanna ji. The meeting discussed other issues but not quitting the government. I was not told by anyone to submit my resignation, nor was any other minister in the meeting,” Gupta said.
The other BJP leader said that in all likelihood, state BJP chief Sat Sharma and Ajay Bharti and Rajiv Jasorta will be the BJP’s new faces in the government. He said that Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga, who have already been made to resign for participating in the Hindu Ekta Manch’s rally in Kautha, will not be given any position in the government.
Sources said that Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Sham Lal and Minister of State (MoS) Sunil Kumar Sharma may have to go. Sat Sharma was not available for his comments.
Sources in the government told Kashmir Reader that there is no threat to the coalition government. During the BJP meeting, sources said, there was a demand for a CBI probe into the Kathua crime, but Khanna did not agree to it.
The BJP meeting was still going on when this report was sent to press.
