Anantnag: Militants attacked an army patrol Tuesday afternoon in Tral area of Pulwama district, leaving at least trooper injured.
Following the attack, a massive Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched and is still underway in Seer area of Tral.
The injured army man has been identified as Pankaj Raina of 42 RR.
He, as per the police, has been shifted to Army’s Base Hospital in Badamibagh cantonment of Srinagar.
As per police reports, a patrol party of the 42 RR came under indiscriminate fire and a grenade attack near Jama Masjid in Seer area of Tral, at about 3:45 PM Tuesday afternoon.
“One army man was injured. The area has been cordoned off following the firing,” SSP Awantipora Zahid Malik told Kashmir Reader.
Army, police reports say, retaliated to the fire but the militants managed to flee the spot.
A CASO has been launched to try establish contact with the militants, who are believed to be still in the area.
As the news of the CASO spread, clashes erupted amid a spontaneous shutdown in many parts of Tral. Seer is the native village of Hizb commander for Tral, Hammad Khan, and rumours were that he might be trapped in the CASO.
Local sources informed Kashmir Reader that contingents of government forces being moved to the site of the attack were pelted with stones at least three places.
“Clashes erupted in main town Tral, Batgund and Dhobiwan areas of the town. Intense clashes have been going on in the areas as the CASO continues,” a local source told Kashmir Reader.
There were no reports of anyone injured in the clashes when this report was filed.
Searches to nab the militants have intensified and additional forces have been called into the area.
