SRINAGAR: With an objective of linking research with education, MD (Unani) programme was launched by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State (IC) for the development of NER, PMO, personnel, PG and pensions, DAE and DoS and Yesso Naik, Minister of State (IC), Ministry of AYUSH on Tuesday at Regional Research Institute of Unani Medicine, University of Kashmir.
Bali Bhagat, Minister of Health and Medical education and Asiea Naqash Minister of State for Health and Medical education, Housing and Urban development, Social welfare, Govt of J&K were also present on the occasion.
Addressing the audience, Dr Jitendra Singh said that the objective of such an initiative is specialisation and high-end scientific research. “The institute will churn out rich talent in the form of teachers, researchers and medical officers. This will go a long way in taking Unani System of medicine to new standards,” he said and urged upon the various stakeholders to popularise the institution and attract more attention towards the field.
Yasso Naik, Minister of AYUSH highlighted the role of government in promoting medical education and research in the country. Naik said, “The Unani System of Medicine is a comprehensive medical system which provides promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative healthcare. The government will consider the proposal of teaching Unani medicine at undergraduate level.”
Asiea Naqash expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of AYUSH for introducing the course and taking research and development to new heights. She assured every support of the state government for the development of the institute.
Bali Bhagat informed that the government is focussed towards expansion of medical education in view of which five medical colleges have already been sanctioned to the state.
Vice Chancellor, Kashmir University Prof Khursheed Andrai, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aabid Rashid, Director General CCRUM, Dr. Anil Khurana and Dr. Seema Akbar, Assistant Director In Charge, RRIUM were present on the occasion.
The RRIUM Srinagar is the first Institute of MD Unani course in the J & K state. The intake capacity for admission in MD (Unani) course is 07 in each department selected through All India AYUSH PG Entrance Test.
