Both critically injured, shifted to Srinagar hospital
SHOPIAN: Unidentified gunmen attacked a Special Police Officer (SPO) and a civilian in south Kashmir’s Shopian on Monday afternoon, causing critical injuries to both.
Eyewitnesses told Kashmir Reader that the policeman was riding his bike when he was shot at by unknown persons. One of the bullets fired at the policeman hit a civilian who was nearby.
Doctors at Shopian sub-district hospital said that both the injured persons were shifted to Srinagar for advanced treatment. They said that both the persons had critical injuries. Sources said that both the persons had bullet injuries in their chest.
The incident took place at the ‘Four-Way’ in the main town, in a busy market. The incident created panic in the market and many shopkeepers downed shutters of their shops.
The incident took place after a day after suspected militants shot and injured a civilian in Killora area of Shopian.
The injured SPO was identified as Bilal Ahmad, resident of Babapora, while the civilian was identified as Rafiq Ahmad Lone, son of Bashir Ahmad Lone, resident of Vehil village of Shopian.
Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, AS Dinkar, confirmed the incident and said that police were investigating the matter. “Both the injured persons were shifted to a Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment,” he said.
