Hurriyat (M) denounces Mirwaiz’s continuous house detention

SRINAGAR: Hurriyat Conference (M) has strongly denounced the continuous house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq.
A spokesperson of the amalgam in a statement said that Mirwaiz’s Nigeen residence has been turned into a permanent sub-jail where heavy deployment of police always remains outside the entrance gate so that he stays caged and no one is allowed to meet him.
“Mirwaiz was supposed to chair APHC’s general, executive council and working committee meeting, but as he continued to stay detained at home, the meeting was cancelled as decisions could not be taken without him,” he said.
The spokesperson said the recent announcement by authorities that Hurriyat leaders were free to move anywhere proved to be hypocrisy as Mirwaiz and other leaders including Syed Ali Geelani and Muhammad Yasin Malik remain under police detention most of the time.
“This is the height of state high handedness and dictatorship,” he said.
The spokesperson paid tributes to teenage Amir Hameed Lone of Kangan, Ganderbal, who succumbed to injuries at SKIMS on Sunday after being hit by bullets of forces in the funeral procession of Gowher Ahmed.
“Forces are implementing a planned genocide of Kashmir’s young to force the people and the resistance leadership into submission,” the spokesperson said and expressed condolence and solidarity with the family members of slain Aamir.
