SHOPIAN: A “confessional” video of a man who was shot and injured by suspected militants on Sunday night has gone viral on social media.
In the video apparently recorded by militants, the man is confessing to informing the army about the movement of some militants in March, who he had earlier carried in his car.
“I informed the army about the movement of militants in a car and later an encounter took place at Pahnoo village of Shopian in which four civilians and two local militants were killed,” Kifayat Ahmad, a resident of Molu Chitragam, can be heard saying in the 3.5-minute-long video clip which detailing the while detailing the identities of civilians and militants killed on the day.
The background of the video suggests it has been shot in some orchard.
Kifayat says he was carrying the militants in his car and had a minor accident at Arihal village of Pulwama district.
“On reaching Voterpora village of Shopian, it was evening and headlights of my car were not working after the accident, and I was not able to move forward and I told them (militants) that I will go back and they took another car”.
Voterpora is around two kilometers away from Pahnoo, where the militants and civilians were killed.
“As soon as they (car ferrying militants) left the spot, I informed the army as they (army) once tortured me once after some unknown informer told the army about me. I didn’t take money from army but the other informer may have taken money,” he says in Kashmiri.
Kifayat apologises to all the families whose sons got killed in the encounter.
“Allah is watching us and I apologize all the people about my information and I will not do such work again,” he said.
A man not shown in the video asks Kifayat if he was giving the statement under duress, to which he replies in the negative.
“No you did not force me, I am taking the responsibility about that. It’s all your mercy who let me live despite knowing the fact,” he said.
Police said that Kifayat was shot at from a close range leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment.
A police statement said that “Initial investigation reveals the complicity of outlawed outfit LeT in the said attack”.
They said that a case under FIR No. 109/2018 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 arms act has been registered in this regard and were investigating the matter.
