Srinagar: Intense clashes between Degree College students and government forces erupted in north Kashmir’s Sopore, town on Tuesday.
Students of Government Degree College (GDC) boycotted their classes and tried to take out a rally outside College against the rape and murder case of little girl in Kathua.
Witnesses said that the students pelted rocks after police tried to stop them from marching on the roads, leading to clashes between the two sides.
They added that police fired dozens of teargas shells to disperse the protesting students.
Clashes resulted in disruption of the business activities and traffic movement in the down town area of Sopore town.
It is pertinent to mention that class work in Degree College Sopore was resumed after a week which was suspended ad “a precautionary measure” soon after the civilian killings in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
The clashes were going on when reports last came in.
