SRINAGAR: J&K High Court Bar Association Srinagar on Monday took out a protest march from High Court to Lal Chowk here to express solidarity with the eight-year-old girl Asifa who was raped and murdered in Kathua in January.
The Bar demanded immediate action against those involved in the heinous crime.
Carrying banners and placards that read ‘You are not raping girls –you are raping humanity’ and ‘Justice for Asifa’, the protesting lawyers raised slogans against Jammu Bar Association for trying to shield the culprits.
“We demand harsh punishment, of not less than death, for the guilty in the case,” the lawyers said. “We pray for justice only and we have full trust in the judicial system. The culprits of the offence shall be punished according to the law of the land.”
“There should be fast and fair trial in this case and immediate action should be taken against those who involved in such heinous crime,” JKHCBA vice-president Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Dar said.
