Budgam: Senior pro-freedom leader and president Anjuman Shari Shian Agha Syed Hassan on Thursday said it is because of the “repressive policy” and “military outlook” of New Delhi, its “stooges and agents” in Kashmir that youth are forced to take extreme step of joining militancy and getting brutally killed.
Agha said this while addressing a protest rally taken out at main town Budgam against the recent killing of youth in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district and denial of justice to Asifa’s family.
He said India is pushing Kashmiri youth to the wall and forcing them to take to arms. “The youth joining militant ranks shows how New Delhi and its forces have pushed youth of the valley to the wall and left them with no option but to pick up guns,” he said.
“For the past many years, we have been impressing upon the international community and Indian civil society to persuade New Delhi to honour the peaceful struggle of Kashmiri youth but no one has paid any heed,” he said. Agha said Kashmir issue would have been resolved had both India and Pakistan looked at this issue through the prism of humanity. But, both countries have made it a prestige point and it has been taking toll on the people of Kashmir, he said.
The Hurriyat leader said the Government of India is responsible for violence in Kashmir. He said the international community should introspect and see what’s happening in Jammu and Kashmir and persuade rulers to refrain from using force in the state.
“We are here only to press the international bodies to hold a plebiscite. Kashmir issue could be resolved only through plebiscite in line with UN resolution,” he said. “Plebiscite is the only way to resolve the Kashmir tangle which is lingering for six decades.”
