SDSJK condemns ‘manhandling’ of doctors

SRINAGAR: President Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) Dr Imtyaz Banday on Wednesday said the alleged brute act of hooliganism by unruly attendants against medical staff in Government Dental College Srinagar is unfortunate and unacceptable.
In a statement, Dr Banday said, “The attendants assaulted the doctors of Oro-Maxillofacial Department of Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar and also abused the faculty members. This pathetic event is condemnable and culprits needs be booked under law.”
He said doctors put in their blood and sweat to save lives in extremely difficult conditions here and instead of appreciation they get thrashing and derogatory remarks. “This mad pattern of atrocities against medical staff has become a routine and doctors face intimidation on regular basis. These episodes have generated a fear-psychosis among medical staff and they find it difficult to work under such hostile conditions.”
He termed it deplorable that hospital authorities have “miserably failed” to ensure safety and security of doctors and paramedical staff at Government Dental College Srinagar and across the state.
Dr Banday criticised the government for turning a deaf ear to the continuous request of establishing a foolproof security system for doctors and bringing an ordinance in this respect.
“Mere verbal assurances won’t do justice to our concerns,” he said.
