Pulwama: Suspected militants barged into the house of a special police officer (SPO) in Lassipora area of Pulwama district and beat him up, then left the village firing several shots in the air.
This assault comes days after two policemen were killed in Anantnag and Pulwama districts and one was injured after being shot at in Anantnag district.
According to sources, at least three armed men, who are yet to be identified, barged into the house of Danish Nabi Allaie, son of Ghulam Nabi, in Alaipora area of Lassipora at about 8:45 Monday evening.
According to police sources, the gunmen held the family at gunpoint and beat Danish ruthlessly.
“After beating Danish, the militants left the house and fired several shots in air as they were leaving the village,” a senior police officer told Kashmir Reader.
He said that the militants have also warned local shopkeepers to close their shops early.
“Local sources have told us that the militants have asked shopkeepers earlier as well to close their shops early. Last night they warned the shopkeepers again,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the SPO Danish had to be hospitalised by his family later in the night.
“He was admitted to district hospital Pulwama and was soon discharged after his injuries were tended to,” the police officer said.
On Tuesday morning, a police team visited the SPO’s house and took details from the family to investigate the incident.
The family of the SPO, however, is maintaining that Danish was injured in a local scuffle.
“That’s what they told in the hospital. But we have credible information of what happened. We will in the coming days talk to the SPO as well and investigate the matter further,” the senior police officer said.
