Srinagar: A civilian was killed and another sustained injuries as government forces opened fire on protesters near the gunfight site in Kulgam area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday.
Sources said that 30-years old Sharjeel Ahmad Sheikh s/o Abdul Hamid Sheikh, a resident of Khudwani was shifted to district hospital Anantnag in injured state where doctors declared him brought dead.
Hospital sources said that Sharjeel was hit by bullet on his chest.

Earlier an army soldier was killed and another sustained injuries during a gunfight with militants at Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
As the gunfight between militants and government forces intensified at Wani Mohalla in Khudwani area of Kulgam, protesters tried to march towards the gunfight site to disrupt the force’s operation.
A gunfight started late Tuesday night between militants and the government forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police said the forces surrounded Wani Mohalla in Khudwani area of Kulgam district for searches.
“During the search operation, some gunshots were heard after which an encounter started. The gunfight is still underway,” police said.
