SRINAGAR: The joint resistance leadership (JRL) has termed the attempt of Kathua Bar Association and certain political parties of Jammu, who are obstructing the law from taking its own course and openly “favouring the criminals” involved in the rape and murder of an eight year old girl, as shocking and (their) moral bankruptcy.
In a statement, JRL comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik, said there may hardly be any place in the world where efforts are made by a section of people to shield the culprits involved in the rape and murder of a minor child unless there is a heinous ulterior motive involved.
They said it seems the motive (behind the rape and murder) was to intimidate and displace the Gujjar community; that is why these people are driven towards such “shameless and highly condemnable” actions.
JRL said that creating hurdles by these lawyers in filing the charge sheet against the culprits is a violation of all basic principles of law, justice and humanity.
“(This) has left a big question mark on their (lawyers’) credibility and their protest clearly indicates that these lawyers are working under political pressure and an agenda. This brazen act has also taken lid off their anti-Muslim mindset,” the leadership said.
Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik while citing the case of Nirbahya rape and murder (of Delhi) that shook India in 2012, said that all political, religious and social organisations and civil society activists rightly joined hands and spoke in one voice to ensure severe punishment to the culprits and justice for the victim, however, in case of Kathua rape and murder, every effort is being made to shield and save culprits by communalising this human issue of justice to a little child.
JRL made it clear that whether it is the issue of justice for the minor girl or any issue related to injustice or harassment of the people of Jammu, Chenab Valley, Rajouri and Poonch at the hands of fanatic elements, who belong to a particular community, the Kashmiri leadership and the people of Kashmir will always stand by them.
