Sinagar: Police on Monday failed to produce a report on the arrest of seven activists of Dukhtaran Millat before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Srinagar prompting the petitioners to file a contempt case against SHO Soura.
Seven Dukhtaran activists hailing from Pulwama district were detained by Police on Sunday at Pinglana village when they were trying to visit the family of a slain militant.
However, as the families waited for their release, they said, they were called and informed by Police Station Soura on Monday that the detained women activists were wanted in an FIR registered under unlawful activities act for participating in the March 23 Youm-e-Pakistan celebrations.
On Monday the Chief Judicial Magistrate directed the SHO Soura to submit a report on the arrest of women activists on Tuesday before the court.
When the police failed to produce a report, the applicants filed a petition for contempt of court and pleaded that the matter to be sent to High Court under section 94 of J&K constitution.
Advocate Mir Urfi told Kashmir Reader that “SHO Soura failed to submitted the report despite court order and an FIR has also been lodged in police station against the accused.”
She said the next date for submission of report has been listed for Wednesday.
