Kashmir remembers Mehjoor on his 66th anniversary

Srinagar: To commemorate the 66th death anniversary of eminent poet Mehjoor, amega literary and cultural event was organized by J&K Cultural Academy, Directorate of School Education, Kashmir and J&K Mehjoor Foundation at the Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh Srinagar
The function was presided over by noted writer and Poet Gh Nabi Khayal while Prof Mohammad Aslam, Mohammad Shafi Pandith, G.R.Sofi, Prof. Mohammad Zaman Azurda and Rafiq Raz were also in the presidium. Poetic compositions of Mehjoor were presented by student artists of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kothi Bagh .
In his address, Gh Nabi Khayal described Mehjoor as one of the Great Poet of his time who introduced new sensibilities in Kashmiri poetry, hitherto unknown in Kashmiri Literature.
Prof Bashar Basheer presented a paper on the occasion in which he highlighted the cultural sensibilities of Shaeri Kashmir Mehjoor. Director School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N.Itoo expressed his views about the contribution of Mehjoor and said that the younger Generation needs to be apprised of the message of Mehjoor.
Other personalities who shared their views on the occasion include Prof. M.Z.Azurda, G.R.Malik and president of Mehjoor Foundation Abdal Mehjoor. Abdal Mehjoor in his speech said that much remains to be done to highlight the contribution of Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor. He said that there are some unpublished publications of late Mehjoor and they will be published so as to have a glimpse of multi-faceted personality of Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor.
Earlier in his welcome address Chief Editor JKAACL, Mohammad Ashraf Tak said that JKAACL has organized various functions across the state to pay tributes to Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor and this is One of among them and the main purpose of the function is to highlight life and contribution of Shaer-i-Kashmir Mehjoor.
People from different walks of life and students from various institutions were present, there. The Prominent writers ,poets, teachers and intellectuals include Prof Mohammad Aslam, M.Shafi Pandith, Azaj Kakroo, Z.G. Ahmad, Dr Shafaq Sopori, Ayub Sabir, Bashir Ahmad Dar, Shamshad Kralwari, Syed Akhter Mansoor, Noor ud Din Hosh, Khursheed Qureshi, Gulshan Badrani, Dr Syed Iftikhar, Fayaz Ahmad Fayaz, G.N.Shakir, Ranjoor Tilgami,Shabir Hussain Shabir, Nusrat Jan, Zaroor Sultan , Mohi ud Din Shilzari, Masood Shadaab and others.
Glowing tributes were also paid to eminent poet Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor during a function held at Boys High School Pallar Budgam.
A daylong function was organized by Chief Education Office Budgam in collaboration with District Information Centre Budgam, JKAAC&L and CEO India.
Chief Education Officer Budgam, Rouf Ahmad Shahmiri presided over the function, where teachers and students from different schools threw light on life and poetry of Mahjoor.
While paying rich tribute to the poet, participants termed poetry of Mahjoor as a great contribution to the Kashmiri language.
Speakers said Mahjoor’s contribution enriched not only the Kashmiri language, but it also depicts the picture of Kashmiri culture.
In Kupwara District Administration in collaboration with education department also organised a programme in Town Hall Kupwara to commemorate the 66th death anniversary of eminent poet Ghulam Ahmad Mahjoor Mahjoor.
The programme was attended by DC Kupwara Khalid Jahangir, SSP, ACR, CEO, teachers and a huge gathering of students from various educational institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, DC highlighted the significance of Mehjoor’s notable works and his patriotic verses that touch every cord of our conscience even today.
“Mehjoor was a poet par excellent for his contribution to every walk of Kashmiri life. He has played a huge role in enriching literary heritage, language and made people cherish our cultural ethos. He had love and compassion for humanity. His belief in unity, religious harmony and fellow feeling made his message more appealing. The message through his poetry earned him the title of Poet of New Kashmir”, said DC.
Meanwhile Girls Higher Secondary School Baramulla organised a programme to commemorate the 66th death anniversary of Shaer-e-Kashmir Mahjoor.
The programme was attended by ADC Baramulla, Farooq Ahmad Baba, CEO, DIO, teachers and a huge gathering of students from various institutions.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC highlighted the significance of Mehjoor’s notable works like Poshe-mati – Janano, Bage Nishat Ke Gulo and his patriotic verses that touch every cord of our conscience even today.
Mehjoor’s songs presented by the school orchestra were warmly received and highly appreciated by the audience.
