SRINAGAR: After S P College Srinagar, Government Degree College, Pattan has now introduced B Sc IT in its current academic session.
Three year degree course in Information Technology (IT) is being introduced in the college. The course is a six semester program and on completion a student will be fully trained with knowledge/skills set in information technology.
Principal of the college, Dr Sheikh Aijaz Bashir told Kashmir Reader that they “surveyed many districts and found out Pattan district had no computer related course”.
“We sent a proposal to the government. After inspection, they accepted the proposal,” he said.
As per the content of the course, a student shall acquire in-depth knowledge in various areas of computer science, electronics and management. Further, to enrich the mathematics background of students, the subject will be taught in few semesters of the course.
He said that manpower, handling data and ICT (Information Communication Technology) are in great demand and “that makes the course attractive and relevant for young minds”. “The present intake in the college for the course is only 30,” he added.
Asked if the college needed extra faculty for the said subject he said, “It is a combination of different subjects, so we don’t need extra faculty.”
After completion of the course, a student can go for a start up in ICT or pursue post graduation opting M Sc IT, offered at Central University, Cluster University, Kashmir University and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University besides other universities across India and abroad.
The candidates having 45% marks under open category and 40% under reserved category at 12th class level (Higher Secondary Part-II) in Science stream from J&K Board of School Education or any other board/institution equivalent thereto are eligible for admission.
For this academic session, students will be selected on the basis of 10+2 marks irrespective of their stream. Desirous students can apply as per Admission Notice-II of 2018 publicised in print and electronic media and available on college website.
