SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Anganwadi Workers and Helpers Association (AWHA) on Saturday protested again in Partap Park Srinagar demanding an increase in honorarium and other benefits.
Scores of the protestors assembled here at Partap Park and raised slogans against the state government for not increasing their honorarium over the years.
President Anganwadi Centers Association, Tasleema Subhan said, “We are on strike from last 67 days. The strike will continue till the government will take any proper decision regarding our demands.We have already requested the state government to increase the honorarium of Anganwadi workers and helpers”.
She added: “We are demanding an increase in honorarium, Pension, and medical leave for both workers and helpers. We are also demanding the promotion of employees as per the seniority basis. We are paid rupees 600 rupees from the last 15 years. We are almost 61000 employees and are demanding justice from the government,” she said.
The protestors also said that honorarium from last seven months is pending with the social welfare department.
The protestors said that besides Anganwadi work, they also perform duties of the health department, education department and social welfare department. “But we are never paid for the extra work,” they said.
