Srinagar: Welcoming the Supreme Court’s assertion that Article 370 of the constitution is not a temporary provision, MLA Shopian, Adv. Mohd Yousuf Bhat said that the apex court has upheld the reality of the article 370, which grants special status to the state of Jammu and Kashmir and people should not get swayed away by slogans anymore.
He said, “Tinkering with article 370 was constitutionally impossible, which has now been vindicated and authenticated by no less than Supreme Court itself. It is the constituent assembly which incorporated article 370 in the constitution, providing a constitutional basis for the relationship of J&K with the government of India,” a statement said.
MLA Shopian also said that Article 370 has assumed a place of permanence in the constitution and the feature is beyond amendment, repeal or abrogation.
“Article 370, which gives special status to J&K, is in the basic structure of India constitution and with supreme court reiterating it, there is no scope left for anyone now, to seek its abrogation,” he said in a statement.
