Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik on Thursday urged people across the state to stage peaceful protests after Friday prayers in solidarity with the people of Shopian, Tral and Islamabad, and to draw the world’s attention to the “genocide of Kashmir’s youth by trigger-happy forces”.
The leadership also urged the Imams of all Masjids and shrines to raise a strong voice against the ongoing repression in Kashmir, and to seek people’s support for the resolutions framed by the JRL.
The JRL asked the Imams to present the resolutions before people in mosques so as to gain their support and approval.
In a statement, the JRL said that they were barred from visiting Shopian to express condolences to the bereaved families. “It punctured their (government’s) tall claims that the pro-freedom leadership is free to go anywhere. The intentions of the government are clear: it only believes in military might and use of force as a reaction to the popular sentiment,” the JRL said.
“The people of Kashmir are offering priceless sacrifices on all fronts, where as the rulers have thrown all principles of democracy and humanity to the winds and are busy ruthlessly crushing the people’s movement for their fundamental right,” the leadership said.
The JRL urged the international community to help in this hour of crisis and play its part in stopping the bloodshed in Kashmir.
The JRL strongly condemned the use of force against protesting students.
