Handwara police flags ‘false news’ of student’s death

Srinagar: Police in Handwara issued a statement on Thursday that a false news had been flashed on various social networking sites, “with intent to cause fear and alarm”, regarding the death of a student in Handwara during a “law and order situation.” The police said that “no such incident has happened in the district.”
It also clarified that some incidents of stone-pelting by students were reported but police handled them with “due caution and care”.
“Some officers and jawans of security forces were injured in these incidents,” the police stated.
The statement said that Handwara Police has registered a case against rumour-mongers under FIR No 118/2018 in PS Handwara under Sections 505 RPC and 66 IT Act, and investigations taken up.
